Lesson Two:  Best Practices for What Matters Most

In looking over some of the links you provided for Lesson Two I zeroed in on Facebook apps.  Lately I’ve been spending a bit of time on Facebook for a group I belong to in addition to keeping up with my friends and family.

I was intrigued when I found the link on your past page for www.interactyx.com...and thought I browse about.  I saw a Facebook app for WorldCat and I called my sister back to look at it since she’s a librarian and this app is about finding library books.  She said she knows about WorldCat but never knew there was a Facebook app for it.  She went to her computer and, I guess as librarians can do, had a wonderful time looking up titles and seeing where to locate them.  Later she came back and told me how great a tool this is.  So…I actually passed some social media info. on to her!

I linked to the HeyMath! App but that is no longer functioning so I need to cross that one off my list.  I am going to search and see if I can find something similar…bet I can.  You’ve showed us so many sites that I’m sure there is one out there.

http://www.teachhub.com/awesome-facebook-apps-educators is a site I went to but it was a waste of time for me since most of the sites I linked to no longer existed or they didn’t work in my browser.

I did come across ZOHO Online Office in Facebook (https://apps.facebook.com/zohoapp/).  It looks interesting but I think right now it’s too much for me to handle.  It seems to be something like a Microsoft Office in which you store your documents and ZOHO makes them available on any computer…no need to carry a laptop or a jump drive.  Some items are free and some have a monthly charge.

These are just a few apps/sites I found.  There are so many out there that I really need to set some time apart and explore more of these sites.

For lesson two, I explored several things, and added useful items to my Pinterest. I have one board for technology, and added the K-5 iPad apps article to that. I also found the Spangler Science Video Experiments to be useful so I shared that via Pinterest as well.

Here are some other ones that you might find useful.

1. One big issue with apps is the lack of technology. Here is a great resource for teachers who only have access one ipad:

15 Apps for the one iPad Classroom

2. Here is an article that reviews some amazing boards dealing with educational technology. Pinterest for teachers is really exploding and this article brings some of the best into one place.

The 25 best Pinterest boards for Educational Technology

3. Easy Tips and app suggestions for using QR Codes in the classroom: Using QR Codes in the Classroom

4. Heard of Padlet? It's very easy to use, and free! Lots of ways to use this tool in the classroom and PD level. Padlet

Enjoy-hope some of this is helpful!

Thanks for all the good stuff posted!

Following some of the links in Lesson 2, I started researching educational apps for Facebook. One thing led to another and I found this site, “The Best Educational Apps (iOS)” that has some really good resources. The apps seemed more useful than most sites claiming to have good educational apps that I have looked at. Please see the link below. http://www.edudemic.com/best-education-technology/the-best-education-apps-ios/

Another resource that I want to share is an app called “Poll Everywhere.” I first saw it used by a friend of mine who is in higher education when I sat in on one of her classes. She asked the students a question and then asked them to text their responses a to given number. As they texted their answers, they began to pop up onto her computer screen projected in front of the class. It was an amazing way to collect data without standing in front of a whiteboard and the students were very engaged.  http://www.polleverywhere.com/
