I have worked with both Blogger and Wordpress to create blogs in the past. Up until about a year ago I frequently upadated a life in Alaska/travel blog at Pretty Things, Alaska and Beyond. I really enjoyed blogging as a creative outlet, but I started a Master's program and blogging went by the wayside.

I enjoyed this assignment for the opportunity to work in Blogger again. I recently finished a professional development course centered around the fantastic book, School Climate 2.0: Preventing Cyberbulllying and Sexting one Class....  I was so inspired by the book that I decided it would be very powerful to start a book club in the fall, in which staff members, parents, students, and community members would be invited to read the book and meet once a week to answer discussion questions and brainstorm ideas to increase the safety and positive learning environment of our school. When I read the assignment in Unit 2 I decided to start a blog to initiate this book club. Here is the blog: Su-Valley Book Club. I don't have much content yet, as I will need approval and support from my principal to start this project. I did create a header and a favicon, which was fun. I was pleased to see that Blogger has improved in my absences; many things are now way more intuitive. For example, pictures can now be dragged into blog posts. Favicons used to require html code and now they are a piece of cake.

Your story sounds similar to mine! I started a blog to update family (they live around the world, but we're originally based in Minnesota) but became busy and it fell by the wayside. Also like you, the second assignment helped me decide to start trying to do some kind of blogging again. Your book club and associated blog sound excellent! I hope you get the support and approval of your administrator! Good luck!

Hi Brinna! Thanks for the kind words. I look forward to hearing more about your reentry into the blogging world.

Your "City Mouse, Country Mouse" blog post made me smile!  I'm in Fairbanks and generally only visit Anchorage once every spring for the IDEA Homeschool Curriculum Fair, where I have a booth for my business.  This spring, however, I went to Anchorage twice--which was almost big city overload...   I took my youngest son down for a few days to watch his older brothers compete in the state X-C skiing races at Kincaid Park.  You weren't kidding when you said Anchorage didn't get much snow this past winter!  The older boys were busy skiing, but in between watching the races, I took my youngest son to several of the restaurants you mentioned.  Snow City Cafe certainly set a new high bar standard for breakfast!  Have you tried Fire Island Bakery?  I think there are two locations now.  I've only been to the original location which is in a residential neighborhood on G Street.  Their croissants are phenomenal.

I like your Pretty Things, Alaska and Beyond blog, Katie. I recently made a blog for my classroom and realized how it can be difficult to make them look anything beyond utilitarian. All the custom graphics you made for your posts and sidebar look great!
